ANALYSIS: Alaapatique tried the dirt for the first time, he pressed the pace and held 2nd vs. $20,000 Maiden-Claimers Aug 13. He plots well and the jump back up to this level seems encouraging. Cancel is back to ride and we’ll give Alaapatique the HF 15a. Here Sir is back to a dirt sprint after his 8th vs. $75,000 Maiden-Claiming turf routers July 17. He would top the charting off any of his last three dirt sprints all vs. straight Maidens and he could look much improved this afternoon. Two Putt also returns to a dirt sprint after his 7th vs. similar turf routers Aug 10. The blinkers go on today, Castellano takes over and he charts close. Mark him a contender. Shadow Jack was 5th in his debut after a slow break vs. straight Maidens at Monmouth July 31. This might be a better spot and the drop in with Maiden-Claimers can only help. Lightning Buzz is related to a winner. Augie’s Coming is related to three winners. CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Two Putt :30.9 – Vitiate :31.8 – Alaapatique :32.0

Four of these are separated by a 1/2 length at the imaginary wire with Here Sir leading at every call. He could have some pace pressure from Jet Streak and that could leave him vulnerable late. Two Putt has the fastest last fraction of 30.9 and he could be the passing horses in the stretch. Alaapatique and Vitiate figure to be in striking position entering the stretch and neither one can be ignored.
