Siberian Laughter is off a dull effort as he pressed the pace and tired to last of six at the $40,000 level June 6. However, there is reason to believe he could bounce back today:

-That race has produced two next-out winners so it seems that was a strong race for the level.
-He is a route winner over this Santa Rosa turf course.
-Gonzalez was up for his best recent effort when 2nd Jan 18.
-In Column PER 7 he seems to have a pace advantage today.
-His barn hits at a 21.1% win clip with runners moving DOWN in class.

‘Laughter is a now a 7-year-old and he has been sliding down the class ladder. He does show four works since his last start which suggests his fitness level is OK and the recent dull effort suggests another drop in class seems necessary as he might not be as fast as he used to be.

There are a number of reasons for a poor last showing in a horse’s race, but there are ways to look to see if maybe it was just a tossout and that maybe a horse can rebound or bounce back with a better effort. Look for recent works as those are often a sign of fitness and if a “go to” jockey is back to ride or another “go to” rider takes over that is also a good sign. It also could be the horse was just not feeling well.

Horses are not robots and very few keep their good form up. Expect a better performance next time out if a horse with decent form is off a poor effort as it may be it just wasn’t their day.
