Want some help handicapping the Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes, which is Race 4 at Santa Anita on Sunday?

ANALYSIS: These early season juvenile Stakes are tough to handicap as you don’t have a lot to go off of, and the horses can improve or regress dramatically from race to race. That said, favorites do very well in this kind of race suggesting the backstretch money has a good handle on the 2-year-olds. Mrazek is one of two horses entered by O’Neill, and he retains Gutierrez off his daylight romp over Cal-bred straight Maidens in his debut May 31. He tops the charting and will get the HF 15a. Dubdubwatson is the only runner in the field to have graduated against open straight Maidens, which he did in his second start May 22. That makes him a solid contender. Swiss Minister beat Cal-bred Maidens in his debut May 1 and now picks up Bejarano. He worked fast June 16, so perhaps he’s on the improve. Finally, Pistone Steel finished 3rd behind Dubdubwatson debuting with open Maidens May 22. These are the kind of Stakes where a non-winner can actually win, and he did go off favored that day. Count him a threat. CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Xingontothebone :19.9 – Swiss Minister :20.1 – Mrazek :20.3
