This looks like a strong field, and the charting suggests it could be wide open with 10 of the horses plotting within five lengths of each other at the wire. That said, Heat The Rocks does appear the one to beat. She dominated Cal-bred Maidens on synthetic Nov 7, just missed in a Cal-bred Stake routing on dirt Dec 7 and was 2nd in a Cal-bred turf route Stake Jan 24. She seems to run well on any surface or distance and will take down HF 15a honors. Sheer Pleasure daylighted Cal-bred Maidens in her debut Dec 19 at Los Al and finished 4th in a Cal-bred turf route Stake behind our top choice Jan 24. She adds blinkers and merits respect getting back to a dirt sprint. Grand Yodeler won three of four starts at Del Mar last year, including a win over similar to this in her last start Nov 22. She’s new to dirt, but merits tote and post parade checks. Another comebacker that has to be given a look is Lost Bus. She just missed in a couple of Cal-bred Stakes at Del Mar before being sidelined Aug 27. Her worktab seems a bit light, but she had a light tab prior to her six-length win in her debut on this track May 26. Easter Fever has been 2nd the last three times she’s faced this kind and could be right in the mix, while Alwazabridesmaid was an impressive debut winner over Cal-bred
Maidens Feb 5. She’s a barnmate of the top choice and wouldn’t be a big surprise. Perhaps she’ll be overlooked in the betting, so we’ll make her the HF 20.

CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Council Rules :25.5
