This used to work quite well in the UK - am still tweaking things to work in North America. Thought I would post them here though just out of interest.

I narrow the meeting to races where most/all runners have exposed recent form .. I then use the morning line to narrow the field based on the number of runners in a race.

Once we have a shortlist - I rate the remaining horses by Form, Class, Speed and Ability and come up with one final figure for a combination of all of the above traits. Where two or more horses have the same rating - the first one listed is the selection.
