Quality Road's Hoof: 'Ice Cold'. Hoof specialist Ian McKinlay said that the quarter crack he treated on Quality Road is a “done deal,” and the colt is on schedule for his appearance in the Kentucky Derby. Considered one of the early favorites, Quality Road developed a crack on his right-hind quarter during his win over Dunkirk in the Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 28. “It’s ice cold,” McKinlay said. “He’s moving well, and he’s ready to go.” Trainer Jimmy Jerkens is planning on shipping Quality Road to Louisville on Tuesday and may fit one more breeze into the Elusive Quality colt before he ships. |
