We know you like Quality Road, Draynay. But do me a favor and stop trying to jinx him. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

from Bloodhorse: Quality Road, who suffered a quarter crack in his victory in the Florida Derby (gr. I), turned in a sharp six-furlong work in 1:12 2/5 Friday over the Belmont training track. With exercise rider Juan Moreno aboard, the son of Elusive Quality went easy the first part and finished up strong, according to trainer Jimmy Jerkens. “He went three-quarters in 1:12 2/5 and galloped out in just under 1:26,” Jerkens said. “The track was very fast, but he did it really well and came back great. We just washed his legs and had him out in the sun and everything looks good. He looks like he’s holding his flesh pretty good, so, we should be in good shape. “He’ll have another work similar to what he had today before shipping to Kentucky. I wanted to go a little earlier this time in case things didn’t go according to plan with the weather. Now, if I have to wait an extra day or two that’ll be fine. Jerkens said he still plans on shipping Quality Road to Churchill the Tuesday before the Derby. “We flew him up from up here from Florida, and if it had looked like he got a little shook up from traveling we probably would have gone down a little earlier, but it looks like he doesn’t care about it one way or the other, so I think we’ll be OK just waiting until Tuesday. I’d rather do that. I really don’t see much benefit in being there. All I keep in my mind is when I went down to Churchill for the Breeders’ Cup with my dad’s two horses, Devil His Due and Sky Beauty. We went there three weeks early and you couldn’t have two horses run any worse. Neither one of them picked their feet up; so much for shipping early.” Quality Road has shown no effects from the quarter crack since having a patch put on last week by hoof specialist Ian McKinlay “I stopped by the barn (Wednesday) and his foot was ice cold,” McKinlay said. “He was walking inside the barn and he was perfectly sound. There’s no sensitivity, and I would say it’s a done deal.” Quality Road worked over the Belmont training track in :48 3/5 last week.

Discreet .... I am getting excited can you tell !!! If nothing crazy happens he wins the Derby easy and then has to face a rested Big Drama in the Preakness. I think he will get past that and we are looking at another horse going for the Triple Crown. How exciting....

I like QR alot also, and what scares me the most is the lack of pace in the race now and I don't really know if he can take them gate to wire with only 1 two turn race under his belt. This is going to be one exciting derby. fb

He is the only horse that can run a 1:35 mile the thought of someone trying to catch him the last quarter just doesn't seem realistic.

I could train Quality Road to win the Derby. The clock doesn't lie this horse is a couple of steps ahead of everyone. He is training faster than horses are running in races. This race could not set up better for him if it had to.

I have to admit, I haven't paid much attention to NY racing lately, (thats going to change when Belmont opens), but I remember the Bel training track to be alittle deep and times are a little slower than most other tracks published workouts. Saying that, I don't consider 1:12 a killer workout. Its OK, we have to take his coinnections word that hes 100% fit. I still have alittle doubt. I have him in my top 3, but lets not give him the race just yet.

I'm keeping an eye on the graded earnings list, mainly due to Mr. Hot Stuff. THere's some talk that Chariotable Man my run, which is freaking ridiculous, but he would add some pace to the race. Regal Ransom, Papa Clem, Friesan Fire, and Quality Road are the other forwardly-placed types.

Okay Draynay, though a pain in the..... with all the quality road posts and replies i have to give you credit for being persistent. for that If Q.R. wins ill double your hat intake and send you a Vikings one, Pink if i can find it hahaha, just teasing ill do a purple one. I have some bets in mind but im only about 3/4 done with my homework. One thing I see so far but we don't know everyone racing yet nor post positions. There is a horse or 2 I feel may be in that 12-1, 15-1 7 to 12 lengths off the pace type horses that i think may have a big shot if the pace remains at a snails pace as it seems to be right now. I havn't ruled out the big 3 or 4 either but i wont know definately until posts are drawn and final works in.

I believe Dunkirk is going to hit the board so I am left with 2 more horses to finish my Super tickets. So far I have Musket Man, CC, Papa Clem, Desert Party, and Pioneer of the Nile. I left out FF and IWR because I just do not believe they are better than what I have.

Lol... you should have heard me talk about Big Brown last year !!! The big race tomorrow at Keeneland I am going with Omniscient. Asmussen should have him ready to run off his back to back wins and he shows 4 solid works since his last outing including a 6 furlong bullet at the track. Beyer wise if he improves he should be tough to catch coming home he will need that strong closing kick to pull off the upset. |
