Default Penn Gaming is more worried about Casino's than Horseracing!

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendNot everyone is in favor of a bill that would readjust revenue sharing for potential slot machines at The Woodlands.

Developers of the Kansas Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway are opposing legislation that would change the revenue, citing an unfair deal with The Woodlands getting better and newer deal than the casino did.

The Associated Press also reports that the proximity of The Woodlands to the Kansas Speedway has raised some eyebrows out of fear of revenue loss.

The Pittsburgh Morning Sun interviews a spokesperson for Penn National Gaming, one of the partners in the Speedway project:

“The location of that racetrack [The Woodlands] is just a stone's throw from our location,” Bailey said. “To have that race track come in and try to change the rules in the middle of the game is what we are opposed to.”

In the AP piece, Unified Government media specialist and lobbyist Mike Taylor expresses concern about the bill's language regarding revenue for local governments.

After reading the recent news about the Issues of track conditions at Penn National I starting to believe they want out of Horseracing all together and just be a Casino revenue based company.

I hade emailed Penn Gaming long ago about taking over The Woodlands and making it a full blown Horse/Dog/Casino operation and they didn't even respond!

Harrah's is involved in trying to take dog racing out of a dog track "racino" right now. They're offering the state something like $50 million to make the dog track slots-only.
