empty handicapping help
does anyone use a handicapping program or system that has worked well in the past.
i am new to the forum and horse playing, so any pointers would be helpful. by doing well, i mean making a profit or hitting winners at a 40 ro 50 % clip. this is a hard game and i basically try to look at class, speed, pace of race, and level of purses the horses have been running, and of course i like the trainer/jockey angle. maybe nothing works well except luck.:

I'd recommend getting the "One-Minute Handicapper" from DRF.COM and the package they offer called "Elements of Handicapping". It doesn't cover synthetics if you play california, etc. but is quite insightful. I've only been in the game a year and a half and just try to read everything out there. Some of it is more useful than others, but those two and "Exotic Betting" have been the most helpful on a limited budget for me personally.
