New D-backs starter Bryan Augenstein had been extremely sharp in the minors before making his major league debut last week, and acquitted himself quite well in that start, throwing a much better game than his current 7.11 era will indicate. Aside from a 3-run third inning, he tossed 5 scoreless innings and headed into the 7th with a highly respectable line. Unfortunately, he allowed a couple of baserunners to start the 7th before leaving to a standing ovation from the Arizona crowd (despite the fact they were losing at the time; that should tell you how promising the guy looked), and they eventually came around to score on the relievers. Makes his second start here and i'm expecting another good performance, especially with the butterflies pretty much out of the way.

Meanwhile, the Marlins start reliever Hayden Penn, who hasn't started a game since 2006 back when he was an Oriole. Penn doesn't figure to go more than 5 innings or so, and though he pitched a very strong 2 innings in his last appearance, he's been very poor overall this year. The Marlins relief corp isn't great either, so i think Arizona can score some runs here.

Game looks to be a toss-up at worst, and any improvement from Augenstein should give the D-backs a nice edge.
