Default Dates set for the pari-mutuel Kentucky Derby Future Wager
from the Courier-Journal:

Churchill Downs announced the dates of its three pools for the Kentucky Derby Future Wager yesterday and reduced the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager from three pools to one.

The Derby Future Wager, first held in 1999, will be held Feb. 12-15, March 12-15 and April 2-5. The Oaks Future Wager, first held in 2003, will have its lone pool March 12-15. The Derby will be May 2, the Oaks May 1.

Future wagers often allow handicappers to get better odds on a horse than they might on race day. It is a $2 minimum win bet, with no refunds if a horse doesn't run in the Derby or Oaks. As in the past, there will be 23 individual betting interests in each pool as well a mutuel field that includes all other 3-year-olds for the Derby and all other 3-year-old fillies for the Oaks.
