He’s been holding his own with some tough company at Turf Paradise, and he’s proven very capable of running well on the dirt. At this point in time, he just seems too fast for this bunch. $1 EARLY PICK 4 (races 1-4) BIG TICKET 2 with 3-1-4-5 with 6-3-7-4 with 2-5-6-4 = $64 LITTLE TICKET 2 with 3-1 with 6-3-7-4 with 2-5-6-4 = $32 $1 LATE PICK 4 (races 8-11) BIG TICKET 6-7-9 with 2-1 with 7-1-2-5 with 2-11-6-1 = $96 LITTLE TICKET 6-7 with 2-1 with 7-1 with 2-11-6-1 = $32 SPOTLIGHT -- RACE 8 You can find my analysis of today’s Grade III Derby Trial on ESPN.com, so I’ll take a quick look at a solid entry-level allowance. Cash Refund is the type of horse that makes racing exciting. His debut was scintillating and had me saying ‘remember that guy!’ When a horse stops the clock like that in his first start, there’s no way of knowing what he’s capable of. He’s been drilling like clockwork about every 10 days since that effort, and if he runs back to that or improves at all, look out. Unbridled Express made an impressive return off a 2 ½ year layoff when just missing in an Oaklawn allowance. He’s obviously still talented, and should move forward. If the top pick goes backward even a small step, he could hit the wire first. Broadway Al has been off since August and makes his first dirt start, but I love the improving set of drills over conventional dirt surfaces. It’s possible he’ll jump forward at a price with the switch here. |
