Where can I go to find out the payoffs on bets. I know they range but what is the average? Such as If I put a $1.00 bet for my horse to WIN and she does, what do I get??? Same question for PLACE, and SHOW. |

Wildhorsey, Easy answer for win, difficult for place and show. For a win bet, multiply the final odds times the amount of your bet, then add the amount of your bet. 2-1 odds on $2 bet 2x2=4+2 payoff $6. 6-5 odds (1.2-1) $1.2x2=$2.40 + 2 payoff = $4.40 Place and show are tough to guess at least for me. Both place and show bets have separate pools. In the place pool both 1st & 2nd place horses share the pool. You could have a place bet on a 10-1 horse, and if the other horse was 1/9 you could get a payoff of $2.20. (Happened to me in the Preakness in 1973. I knew Secretariat would win, I played Sham to place. Paid $2.20 or maybe it was $2.10.) Now if you had a 3-1 horse to place and the other horse was 10-1, you might be paid 6.00 or more. It ALL depends on the makeup of the pool. Show same concept, just 3 to share. Regards, |
