USA: Britain's Kentucky Derby contender Awesome Act is set to stay in the States after beating just one home in a disappointing effort at Churchill Downs.

The son of Awesome Again is likely to leave Jeremy Noseda's care to join Rachel Alexandra's trainer Steve Asmussen to continue his career.

Awesome Act is owned in partnership by Vinery Stables and Susan Roy, whose husband Paul is chairman of the British Horseracing Authority.

The colt carried Vinery's green-and-white colours in Saturday's race, where Noseda had expected a much better display from a horse who had won the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct in good style before finishing third to Eskendereya in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial.

Awesome Act had worked well on a sloppy track and Noseda anticipated that it would suit him.

"We thought there was no issue with the sloppy track but perhaps there was," he said after the race.

"It was a very disappointing run. We've given it a go but, sadly, hejust didn't perform on the day."

Jockey Julien Leparoux reported: "I was where I wanted to be but he just didn't fire."

Leparoux switched Awesome Act behind the pack from his number 16 post position but, despite the fast pace, the colt did not settle properly and ran too free into the first turn.

He showed little spark down the backstretch and, in company with several other struggling horses, was eased during the closing stages, finishing 19 of the 20 runners.
